About matters
What a matter is
Section titled “What a matter is”A matter is a piece of work your firm has done for a client. It is the base record almost everything else in KLERQ draws on: presentations cite matters, submissions are built from them, and specialists earn credit through them.
Within a matter, work highlights are the individually describable pieces of that work. Highlights are what a submission actually quotes — the matter is the container, the highlight is the copy.
Why matters matter
Section titled “Why matters matter”Your matter list is your track record. Everything a directory ranks you on and everything a pitch claims comes back to work you can evidence.
Two properties make the difference between a list that helps and one that does not:
- Completeness. Work not recorded cannot be submitted. Confidential work still counts if recorded with the client name hidden.
- Freshness. Deal value, who did what, and why the work mattered are all easy to capture at the time and painful to reconstruct a year later.
